Starting Monday May 15, 2017, This Week at USF will only be sent out every other Monday until August 7, 2017 to accommodate the summer months. The next This Week at USF will be sent out on June 26, 2017.

Externships

Fall Externships

Deadline to apply for Fall Externships: August 7, 2017
No late submissions will be accepted.

Before applying for an externship, please review the relevant Externship Application Packet, available in KN 235 or at https://www.usfca.edu/law/professional-skills/externships/civil-criminal-law for Civil/Criminal Externship and https://www.usfca.edu/law/professional-skills/externships/judicial for Judicial Externships.

The mandatory judicial externship class typically meets the Friday before the semester begins. The mandatory civil and criminal classes meet 3-4 times per semester. Please see Course Schedule for all class dates.

Advance your Tax Career with USF’s Graduate Tax Program! Students in USF School of Law’s LLM in Taxation and Master of Legal Studies in Taxation gain a firm grounding in all major areas of taxation and preparation for advancing or launching successful careers in tax law.

Volunteer at the Legal Advice and Referral Clinic ("LARC") on Saturday, 6/24 from 10:30-2:30! Sign up now by emailing probono@usfca.edu.

AABA San Francisco-Tenderloin Legal Clinic

Volunteer at the Asian American Bar Association clinic at UC Hastings on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:30-8:00pm! For more information about how to sign up, email probono@usfca.edu.

Community Announcements

Zief Library - Free Snacks, Free Study Supplies, and More for Bar Studiers at Zief

Free snacks for USF bar studiers are now available at the Zief Circulation Desk. Stop by for an energy bar, some fruit, or pretzels. Thanks to Westlaw and Bloomberg Law, we're also offering free pens and highlighters to USF bar studiers.  These free supplies are also at the Zief Circulation Desk.

  • Law library group study room reservation periods have been expanded from two to three hours.  
  • Zief's second floor has now been zoned as a silent study space for bar studiers only. If you observe talking, audible phone use, or audible headphone use on the second floor, please inform Zief full-time staff so we can remind patrons of the bar study period rules.
  • USF bar studiers can reserve a law library carrel for the entire bar study period.  Stop by the Circulation Desk for a reservation label.

Off-Campus Student Parking Lottery

The 2017-2018 student parking lottery application is now available. Applications are due Monday, July 31 by 4:00 p.m. Notifications will go out via email on Monday, August 7. As a reminder, only students living off campus, further than 3 miles away from the perimeter streets (Masonic, Fulton, Stanyan, and Anza) are eligible to apply. The lottery is done once per academic year, and only 150 commuting students are chosen to purchase full time or 3-day permits.

Writing Competitions

Be sure to stay up to date on legal writing competitions. Many of these contest are free to enter and offer a financial prize or scholarship to the winners. More information is available HERE.

CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services)

CAPS is offering a new service called "Let's Talk." The purpose of Let's Talk is to provide a space for drop-in consultation and support for USF students. Let's Talk will take place on Tuesdays, starting March 21st, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in UC 501.
