Come watch, Salt of Earth (1954), a fictional depiction of true life events of the Empire Zinc Strike, one of the longest labor union strikes in the southwest before the Civil Rights Movement. The granddaughter of the historical strike leaders depicted in the film, Sonia, will share her family’s testimonios and the women’s contributions in Mexican American herstory. The film was made by blacklisted Hollywood artists and banned in the U.S. for over a decade before its release. There will be a Q&A segment after the film screening along with light bites and refreshments.
