Dons Helping Dons
Purpose
Work with student life, student organizations, and campus partners to encourage peer-to-peer support to increase positive health behaviors among the USF community.
Mission
Dons Helping Dons is a peer-led public health ambassador initiative working in collaboration with Health Promotion Services, Off-Campus Living, Student Housing and Residential Education and School Of Nursing and Health Professions, that provides a holistic peer-to-peer approach to promote the well-being of the USF community.
Vision
Dons Helping Dons ambassadors will work in alliance with campus partners to facilitate a shift in campus life culture to nurture a sound body, mind, and spirit through Cura personalis — care of the whole person. As we navigate through the changing environment Dons Helping Dons strives to strengthen our USF community through a process of continual support, encouragement, and education.
Goals
- Partner with campus departments to increase education and awareness of Dons Helping Dons.
- Partner with campus student organizations to increase education and awareness of Dons Helping Dons.
- Shift behavioral and cultural norms among the USF community through public health education/awareness to promote a sound mind, body, and spirit through Cura personalis — care of the whole person.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Follow current public health guidelines.
- Attend on-campus and virtual events to answer questions and share information.
- Stress to students not to put themselves in a situation that makes them feel unsafe, but if they feel comfortable doing so they can. (See Something/Say Something)
- Advise/suggest people to follow public health guidelines. (Also stressing that they are not police-enforcers)
- Use sphere of influence to promote and support USF health policy, such as social media, and having conversations with friends and family.

Responsibilities
Peer Leaders are expected to complete all responsibilities from Peer Advocate (Level 1).
- Follow current public health guidelines.
- Engage in virtual or on-campus events to answer questions and share information. If on-campus, public health recommendations and USF safety protocols will be followed.
- Stress to students not to put themselves in a situation that makes them feel unsafe, but if they feel comfortable doing so they can. (See Something/Say Something)
- Advise/suggest people to follow DPH guidelines. (Also stressing that they are not police-enforcers)
- Use sphere of influence to promote and support USF health policy, such as social media, and having conversations with friends and family.
In addition:
- Assist with marketing with friends, acquaintances, classmates, and student organizations through social media and other marketing channels.
- Assist Health Promotion Services in coordinating events that positive health behaviors.
- Actively participate in providing feedback to the committee. (i.e. keeping track of emails, announcements, and participating in discussions)
- Help organize health information and distribute it through tabling events, orientations, classroom presentations, and other on-campus events per DPH guidelines.
- Maintain a social media, such as instagram, with personal narrative in turns with the prompt of the week.

- Advocate for informed decision making on public health practices and policies across the university.
- Provide accurate information and opportunities for the exploration of personal goals and values that challenge and empower students to make safe and informed choices.
- Commit to participating in workshops and training to learn the most current information on public health practices and education, and the skills necessary to perform responsibilities.
- Facilitate interactive presentations, discussions, workshops, and health education events for USF students within the residential communities, classrooms, and student organizations.
- Develop an effective peer network to encourage, support, and advance healthful living for all USF students.
- Lead and create discussions for Level 1 Peer Advocates and Level 2 Peer Leaders on Canvas/Slack.
- Maintain a presence on social media, such as instagram, as a role model for other students to engage in positive behaviors.
