Student USFMobile Competition

  • Enter your creative ideas to build a feature enhancement to USFMobile.
  • Participate as a team of two to six students preferably from more than one department.
  • RSVP for the informational session or view the Presentation.
  • Submit your ideas by December 15th.
  • Top 5 ideas will be selected and announced January 15th.
  • Top 5 will present your working prototypes at the Ed Tech Expo, March 19, 2018 at the McLaren Complex.
  • Prize: 1st Place - $2500 | 2nd Place - $1000
  • Goals for the Competition:

  • To stimulate creative thinking and team building to increase student engagement
  • Address a need or resolve a problem for USF students
  • Strengthen USFMobile's functionality
  • Increase broader adoption of USFMobile
  • Work with other USF students outside your department to stimulate interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Participation Process/Timeline:

    Step 1 - Attend an informational session on November 16th or December 7th to Learn More
    Step 2 - Submit Your Ideas (by December 15, 2017)
    Step 3 - Be selected as one of the Top 5 finalists/groups by January 15th
    Step 4 - Top 5 participate in a Modolabs technology framework workshop to build prototypes in January/February
    Step 5 - Top 5 present working prototypes before a panel of USF Judges to win 1st($2500) or 2nd($1000) place prizes at
    USF's Ed Tech Expo, March 19, 2018

    These informational sessions will cover guidelines, objectives, potential topics and submission processes of the competition. If you miss the informational sessions, watch this presentation.

    Rules:

    1. Feature should address or resolve a problem or enhance functionality for USF students.
    2. Feature must be created on Modo Campus. This platform allows anyone without technical skills to create unique, one-of-a-kind mobile apps. Flexible screen templates allow you to incorporate any type of custom content, rich media, feed-based data and web applications into your app. To learn more about the platform, visit www.modolabs.com.
    3. University of San Francisco reserves the right to change these rules at any time and for any reason.

    Eligibility:

    This competition is open to all current University of San Francisco students. Students must enter the competition in teams of 2 to 6 students. Participants may not compete on more than one team.

    Judging and Criteria:

    USF Leadership (Admin, Faculty, and Student) will serve as judges for the event on March 19th. Criteria are listed as below:

    1. Functionality and features
    2. Ease of use
    3. Originality and coherence (overall experience of application)
    4. Interface Design
    5. Response to need or problem for USF students
    6. Marketability of feature
