ITS 2016 Review Updates

Application Services Update

USFB Student Address Update Tool  – 
Various members (Trigby Perea, John Casten, Thai Nguyen, Dora Lim and Michael Fraley) of the Application Services team have been working with the Web Services department and Kalamuna, a small Drupal software development organization, to develop a bolt-on utility in MyUSF.  The purpose of the utility is to keep track and ask University students to update their local addresses.  Kalamuna wrote the front-end client application while ITS staff resources focused on the backend web service and Banner data update.  The featured tool was successfully rolled out in early October.  Congratulations to the team. 

Securing Banner INB with SSL – 
As part of the security initiatives, DBA team members (Steve Bair and Kathleen Kuo) have successfully implemented SSL on Banner INB and upgraded the middleware supporting Single Sign On functionality (BEIS & ssomanager).
Total Compensation Statement – 
Partnering with HR, team members Michelle Henderson and Kim Pham worked with Tableau Professional Services to deliver the first annual Total Compensation Statement.  Plans are on the way for electronic delivery for future reports.
Successfully implemented Single Sign On (SSO) to PeopleAdmin and iParq.
USFmobile – 
Dora Lim has been leading efforts to select a new mobile application development platform.  Proof of concepts (POC) have been conducted to evaluate platform vendors: DubLabs and Modo Labs.
ServiceNow Helsinki – 
Regression testing in progress for the planned upgrade of ServiceNow in Dec 2016.  Helsinki sports a new user interface and a more polished service catalog.  Additional new features include Portfolio Workbench and Self Service Portal. 
Salesforce Development – 
Successful upgrade of the Salesforce/Advancement Connect Summer 16 release.  Kudos to the Salesforce Tech Team (Kim, Leah, Michael and Larry).  Progressive enhancements and features are being added to the SFAC Platform.  Alumni Engagement 2.0 has been rolled out smoothly with the help of Project Manager John Soulsby.  Additional functionality upgrade plans are in progress.
Salesforce Student – 
Finishing touches are being developed for the Salesforce Org, supporting student advising and tutoring.  The Salesforce tech team have been working closely with Project Manager Teresa Young to implement case management functionality for Center for Academic and Student Achievement (CASA) and the Learning Writing Center (LWC).

Center for Instruction and Technology Update

The CIT held several tech talks during Fall'16:

-Introduction to iOS 10 and macOS Sierra

-Open Education and the High Cost of Textbooks: Making Real Impact on Student Learning

-Using Zoom to Teach Students in the Classroom and at a Distance

Classroom Technology Update

Some 2016 Classroom technology Projects are as follows:

-Upgraded digital classroom equipment : 8 Cowell Classrooms and 11 School of Education Classrooms

-Set up 3 new classrooms, 1 new Conference Room, 1 new Nursing Simulation lab at the orange county Campus

-42 new Apple TV deployments for Wirlesss-Audio Visual

-Replaced and upgraded 45classroom computers with Solid State Drives!

-Upgrade to the Active Learning Platform(Echo360Lecture Capture)

Client Support Services Update 

Part of the Client Support Services team moved to the new location at Mc100 in late Spring. Mc100 is also home to the new ITS Help Desk and has been seeing a lot of traffic.
The Client Support Services team also welcomed Aishwarya, a masters student in the Computer Science program. We are striving hard to establish a better Social Media presence to give an insight about what we do here, at the ITS. Our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are now fully active, and cover all events and updates pertaining to the ITS.

Digital Education Update

With the start of Fall semester, the Digital Education team partnered with faculty members across all 5 schools and colleges to launch 15 new online and hybrid courses, bringing the total number of courses developed to date to 83. Fall semester also marked the launch of two new USF hybrid masters programs, the Master of Arts in Professional Communication and the Master of Science in Financial Analysis. The Digital Education team also welcomed a new student worker to the team - Mickey Smith, a masters student in the Digital Technologies for Teaching and Learning

Information Security and Compliance Update

Information Security within ITS has evolved over the past 18 months: in an effort to more accuartely reflect their role and function within ITS and the University, we have decided to update the department name. 

Congratulations to Vince Villarama, who last summer earned a new certification : Systems Security Certified Practioner (SSCP)
