Registering for a Directed Study Course
Doctoral students may enroll for a maximum of 6-9 credits of directed study (depending on their program). Directed studies must be developed in conjunction with the advisor; the learning objectives must be clearly defined, the nature of the demonstration of outcomes described, and a specific schedule of meetings with the professor established so that students may obtain the guidance required. Directed studies may only be arranged with full-time faculty and may not be used to substitute for courses regularly provided in the curriculum.
You must complete Part I the Directed Study Form with your instructor and submit the completed form to your department's Program Assistant. The Program Assistant will then submit your form to the Dean's Office who will complete Part II and generate a CRN for the course. A CRN can only be provided after the Dean's approval.
