Using the Degree Evaluation "What-If" Tool

Your degree evaluation "What-If" tool allows you to view major and/or minor program requirements before you officially make any changes.

Use the Degree Evaluation "What-If" Tool to:

  • Explore different majors and minors.
  • See how the courses you have taken will fulfill requirements.
  • View required courses.
  • Determine total courses needed if you want to double major or double minor.

Note: The "What-If" feature is an advising tool and does not permanently change to your degree evaluation.

  1. Explore options using the degree evaluation "What-If" tool (instructions below).
  2. Meet with a faculty adviser in the department of the new major/minor.
  3. Submit a Change of Academic Program (CoAP) form.

After submitting the form online, it will take up to two weeks to be processed.  Once approved, your degree evaluation will be updated with your new major/minor and a new or additional (if applicable) faculty adviser will be assigned and listed on your degree evaluation.

  1. Log-in to myUSF.
  2. Select the Student Tab.
  3. Select Student Records.
  4. Select Degree Evaluation.
  5. Within your degree evaluation, select the "What-If" option near the top of the page.

To view the requirements for a different major and how the courses you have taken would apply to that major:

  1. Select the current catalog year and major of interest ("Program" drop-down menu).

  2. Then, select "Process".

You will now see a sample degree evaluation with the courses you have taken applied to the new major selected.

To view the requirements for a (different) minor and how the courses you have taken would apply to that minor:

  1. Select the minor of interest in the "Areas of Study" section.
  2. Then, select "Process".

Note: Business majors can add any College of Arts and Sciences minors but not a business minor.  Instead, you are able to add a second business major (most majors are 20 credits, the same amount of credits as a business minor).

You will now see a sample degree evaluation with the courses you have taken applied to the new minor selected.

Utilize this feature to see what the requirements would be for a second major and/or second minor.  This tool will also show you how the courses you have taken would apply to the second major and/or second minor.

  1.  Within your degree evaluation, select the "What-If" option.
  2. Utilize the middle portion of the page ("Additional Areas of Study") to add a second major and/or second minor.
  3. Second Major: Under "Additional Areas of Study", select the second major you are considering.
Second Minor: Under "Additional Areas of Study", select the second minor you are considering.
  4. Next, select "Add".  This will populate the second major and/or second minor you are considering into the box area on the right.
  5. Select "Process".

Your "What-If" degree evaluation now shows the second major and/or second minor, required courses, and if any courses you have taken fulfill program requirements.
