Step 8: Register for Classes
Registration opens on April 21 for transfer and early decision first-year students, and June 21 for all other first-year students.
Before Registration
- Complete all items in Step 6: Prepare for class registration, including taking the DSP and any placement tests required for your major.
- See if there are any holds on your account which may prevent you from registering.
- Be on the lookout for an email from a faculty/staff member in your department to review the classes you should register for.
- Join us on June 7 at 5 p.m. PT for a Registration 101 virtual webinar and Q&A. Your department may also be hosting a program-specific webinar the week of June 5–9 for additional registration support.

Registration
- Search for classes
When it's time to register for classes, refer back to the Webtrack tutorial to see how to add classes to your schedule. You should register for at least 12–16 credit hours (register for 16 credit hours to stay on track for graduation). - Call us at (415) 422-4932 Monday–Friday, 9 a.m – 5 p.m. Pacific Time for registration help. The phone number is active all summer, but we'll have increased phone support from June 21–23.
After Registration
- Attend orientation for more help
During orientation, you will have the opportunity to meet with a faculty adviser during the "Orientation to Your Major" session. Your adviser will be happy to review your class schedule and to answer any questions. Don't forget to register for orientation! - Buy/rent textbooks
After you've registered for classes in myUSF, you can view your book list by clicking on Registration and then "Buy Textbooks Online," which will show you which books are required for each of your courses. You can rent or buy your books online through the USF Bookstore.
Dates & Deadlines
April 3: Webtrack, Directed Self Placement (DSP), and placement exams are updated and available. View all Webtrack videos and complete Webtrack quiz by registration. Complete DSP and any required placement exams by the deadlines below.
April 21 at 10 a.m. PT: Registration opens for transfer students and early decision first-year students who have submitted an enrollment deposit.
June 2: Deadline to complete placement exams for any European languages.
June 5–9: Your department may be hosting a program-specific webinar for additional registration support.
June 7 at 5 p.m. PT: Registration 101 virtual webinar and Q&A. Learn more and ask questions about registering for classes. We recommend having at least started Webtrack so you can come prepared.
June 14: Deadline to complete DSP and any placement exams required for your major. (Note: the deadline to complete placement exams for any European languages is June 2.)
June 21 at assigned times: Registration opens for first-year students. You will be assigned a time to register (look for an email in mid-June with your registration time). For registration help call (415) 422-4932. This phone number is active all summer, but we'll have increased phone support from June 21–23, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m Pacific Time.
June 30: Registration deadline. Register for 3–4 classes (12–16 units) so that your first bill in July will have updated information. A typical USF student takes 16 units per semester.
August 1: Registration deadline for transfer students who deposit after June 1.
August 22: First day of classes.
August 28: Last day to add classes for the semester. Any final changes to your semester schedule must be made by this deadline.
