Fall 2018 New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation for Fall 2018 will begin on Saturday, August 18 until Monday, August 20. All incoming students are required to attend, and families are welcome. You can find the complete family schedule here.

10:00am - 2:30pm:Family Orientation Check-In & Hospitality Area Open
11:00am - 12:00pmSpanish Speaking PanelThis session is for families whose first language is Spanish.   Learn about the resources and tips for supporting your student through the eyes of staff, returning students and a family member.  Lunch is provided, and new students are encouraged to accompany their families.

12:00pm - 2:30pm

First Generation Student & Family Program (for First Generation students and families only)First generation students and their families will learn from current USF students, their families and administrators on how to thrive in college. This workshop will bring awareness to on-campus resources that support their holistic development and academic success.
3:00pm - 3:30pmOrientation WelcomeHelp us kick off this exciting weekend with a welcome (home) message from members of the USF community!

Residence Hall Building MeetingsJoin your residence hall's first building meeting to get connected with the USF students and staff who will be here to help you all year long! Mandatory for all students living on-campus.
5:30pm - 8:30pmOff-Campus Student Program & Dinner (Check-in begins at 4:30pm)Students who live off-campus will have the opportunity to meet other students and USF staff, and will learn about helpful strategies for success. Bring your questions because we have answers! Students will also attend Community Group Meeting #1 during this session.
7:15pm - 8:30pmCommunity Group Meeting (Welcome)Learn how to excel in your major and in your college. Topics to be covered include: registering for classes, schedule changes, and information on different majors. All students, even those who have not declared a major, should plan to attend this session.
8:45pm - 10:00pmOrientation Kick-OffLet the GO Team welcome you to USF! Join your fellow classmates and begin your new and exciting adventure! Don't forget to bring your One Card (student ID).

9:30am - 10:30amWelcome Mass (Optional)Members of any or no religious affiliation are invited to join USF President Paul J. Fitzgerald, S.J., at this special welcome Mass. Open to all new students and families, attendance encouraged but not required.
10:30am - 1:00pmDons Fest: Campus Resource and Special Programs Fair & LunchExplore the plethora of resources and programs in the University and in the greater city of San Francisco -- all in one place! From academic offices to the local grocer and non-profit organizations that meet your interests, this is your chance to meet members of the community, acclimate to your new home, and even score some swag!  
10:30am - 3:00pmWorkshop and Open Houses

During orientation, you can attend workshops hosted by various campus resources.  They’re a great way for you to tailor your orientation to meet your specific needs and interests. Topics include: How to get involved on campus, how to navigate San Francisco, study-abroad opportunities and more!

Stop by an open house to learn how these offices can support you during your college career.

     (Both programs are mandatory. Your attendance is tracked.)

    Students will be placed into two groups upon arrival. The groupings will determine which presentation you attend on which day).
