Summer Guest Housing Position Description & Compensation

A Guest Host is considered a full-time, live-in position. Guest hosts can expect to work approximately 35 hours per week with some weekend work required. A Guest Host's main responsibility is working the front desk of their designated building and tending to the needs of guests staying in that building. Guest Hosts interact with a wide variety of clientele and must show a willingness to provide for the needs and expectations of these groups.


The Facilities Team Leader (FTL) works a leadership role and assists in the overall operation and management of the SGH process. FTLs must have worked at least one term as a Guest Host to be considered for the position. 

All staff members, including Guest Hosts and FTLs, will receive the following: 

  • One single room for 12 weeks (unless assigned to Loyola Village)
  • Hourly pay
  • 50% off a summer gym membership at Koret
  • Opportunities to enjoy free programs and events

Requirements, Expectations, and Mandatory Trainings

The Summer Guest Housing period of employment is from the beginning of summer in May until the end of summer in August. All applicants must be able to commit to working for the entire 12-weeks, with Summer Guest Housing as their number one priority. All other commitments, such as summer school, an outside job, or internship must be discussed and approved by the Assistant Director of Service Operations. Summer Guest Housing staff are not allowed to have any additional on-campus jobs throughout their employment unless approved by the Assistant Director of Service Operations.

Candidates for the Summer Guest Housing positions must be registered as students at the University of San Francisco.

All Summer Guest Housing employees must have good standing in the residence halls and are held to the standards as stated in the Student Housing and Residential Education Staff Expectations document. Please download and review this document before completing your application for any of the Summer Guest Housing positions.

All positions require: professionalism, customer service skills, initiative, adaptability, independent judgment, excellent communication skills, the ability to work as a team member, conflict resolution skills, creativity, and basic computer skills with a preference given to experience in leadership and/or management roles. This position also requires an ability to work under pressure while maintaining a high level of cordiality. There are also times when this position requires manual labor; particularly moving linens and making beds in rushed situations.

Facilities Team Leaders report directly to the Assistant Director for Service Operations for Student Housing and Residential Education. Guest Hosts report directly to their Facilities Team Leader. All staff members are expected to be on-call and available any time they are on campus. 

If hired, Guest Hosts must attend all mandatory training sessions (Spring and Summer). Facilities Team Leaders must attend Management Team trainings in April and May and ALL Staff must attend the SGH Meet and Greet, as well as training in May.

Application and Interview Process Overview

Attendance at one information session is MANDATORY in order to be eligible for all open SHaRE student positions. Please refer to the Student Positions webpage for a list of all info sessions. 

2. submit your application

The job application will open on November 5, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. and will close on December 3, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Applications will not be accepted after December 3. 

3. Attend an Individual Interview 

If selected to move on in the process, you will receive an email on February 6, 2019 with instructions for signing up for your individual interview with SHaRE staff. Individual Interviews will take place on February 13 and 14, 2019. At your interview, which will be about 30-45 minutes, you will be interviewed for all SHaRE student leadership positions for which you have applied. Please arrive at your interview location 10 minutes early.

4. SUBMIT YOUR INTENT FORM 

If offered the position, the deadline to submit your intent form to accept the position will be March 27, 2019. All accepted new-hires will be emailed their offer letters on March 21, 2019.
