Join us as we welcome artist and director Nick Egan for a conversation with USF Media Studies Professor Danny Plotnick. Nick Egan is one of the original punks. He’s a designer & music video director who got his start in London in the 1970s. He designed album covers for The Clash, Bow Wow Wow, Malcolm McLaren, INXS, and Bob Dylan. He shifted his focus to music video direction in the late 1980s, working with Iggy Pop, Duran Duran, Sonic Youth, Alanis Morissette, and Kylie Minogue. Today’s discussion will focus on the lessons Egan learned as a young punk in London, and how that DIY philosophy continued to bear fruit over the course of his career. We’ll talk about the creative process, dissect a number of his design and video projects, and, in general, have an awesome time talking about music and art.
We will announce the winner of the 2025 Andrew Goodwin Pop Culture Award!
This event is sponsored by the Media Studies Department, the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Communication Studies, and the Department of Art and Architecture. The annual series is held by the Media Studies Department in honor and memory of the late USF media studies professor Andrew Goodwin.
