Arab Jews: Community and Identity: A teaching and conversation

Wednesday, October 8 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

On-Campus Event - — JSSJ Sukkah, Welch Field

Hadar Cohen

Join educator, artist, and mystic Hadar Cohen in a rich exploration of Arab Jewish identity and the ways Ashkenormative frameworks have shaped, erased, and marginalized a vast diversity of Jewish identities. While unpacking terms like Sephardi and Mizrahi, we will examine the cultural and political contributions of Arab Jews, both those celebrated and suppressed across time. As we gather during the holiday of Sukkot, a time rooted in radical hospitality, we’ll reflect on how these themes connect with one another, and imagine a more inclusive, expansive, and just Jewish world, one that is beyond labels and moves toward deeper collective understanding. This event is co-sponsored by the Program in Middle Eastern Studies.
