Politics Forum: A Conversation With Saikat Chakrabarti
The Politics Department welcomes Saikat Chakrabarti, candidate for Congress in San Francisco, for a discussion on bringing a new generation into power and recruiting young leaders to run for Congress across the United States.
Saikat Chakrabarti is an American political advisor, activist, and software engineer. A progressive Democrat, Chakrabarti co-founded Justice Democrats, which powered Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s successful insurgent campaign in 2018. He served as both campaign manager and as chief of staff to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez until August 2019. He is running to succeed Nancy Pelosi as the representative for San Francisco and California’s 11th congressional district in the House of Representatives. Chakrabarti was a founding engineer at Stripe, and began his political career as the Director of Organizing Technology for Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.
