The afternoon screening and teach-in deepens San Francisco Bay Area connections and knowledge of community and resistance in Puerto Rico. The short documentary film screening of Todavía Estamos Aquí brings awareness of the water crisis, poverty, austerity and a lack of basic services in post-Maria Puerto Rico, illustrated by a hopeful community of Barrio Rucio and supported by mutual aid organization Impacto Juventud, students, and community organizers. Through the screening accompanied by a conversation and other post screening activities, audience members will leave with a heightened understanding of colonial and environmental practices that have impacted the island’s communities and will continue to be replicated in our own communities on the mainland.
