Of Color and Ink is a feature-length documentary that follows Chinese Artist Chang Dai-chien on his journey as he embarks on a quest from the East to the West in search of The Peach Blossom Spring, a utopian place of life and the ultimate truth of art. Widely acclaimed as China’s foremost 20th century painter, Chang Daichien (1899-1983) spent his last three decades living in self-imposed exile from his beloved homeland. His life remained a mystery until now. Beginning with the Director’s discovery of archival footage of Daichien’s life in California, the film takes us on Chang’s extraordinary journey in exile and sheds light on his mission in the global art world. His work formed a bridge not only between China’s past and present, but also between Eastern and Western aesthetic ideas, art and spirituality.
