Opening Day

Spanning 25 years and crossing the realms of studio practice and public art, Taken Root reveals Romero’s visual language that expands the possibilities of printmaking, painting, and paper cutting. Curated by Karen Rapp, Director & Curator, Laband Art Gallery, Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, where it debuted in fall 2023.

About the artist
Sonia Romero (b. 1980) is an artist based in Los Angeles known for her paper-cut and printmaking aesthetics, which she incorporates into both her fine art and public art commissions. Romero’s paintings, prints and sculptures can be found in many prestigious collections, including the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Cheech Marin Museum of Art and Culture.

Located in the Gleeson Library-Geschke Center, the Thacher Gallery is free and open to the public from 12-6pm daily.
