The Souls of Black Jewish Folk

Rabbi Shais Rishon is the spiritual leader of Ohel Eidot CHeMDaT”A, the first African American-led and -centered synagogue in Washington, D.C. Growing up in the Chabad-Lubavitch community in New York City, and hailing from a legacy of African American Judaism stretching back to the 1780s, he is also a writer, educator, and public intellectual whose work bridges Jewish tradition, racial identity, and contemporary American life. Rishon recently published his fourth book, The Souls of Black Jewish Folk, under his pseudonym MaNishtana. Following his talk, he will be in conversation with a member of the USF faculty.
