    SEPTEMBER
    Wednesday, September 23rd, 12:00-1:30pm: Accessibility in  iOS presentation with Dr. Luiz Perez, McLaren Conference Center, 250

    Description: Accessibility in iOS

    Luis Pérez will discuss his experiences with the accessibility of iOS devices and how this can impact learning outcomes. The following topics will be explored:

  • Identifying and using a number of built-in accessibility features of iOS devices to enable learners to overcome barriers in the learning environment.
  • Evaluating and selecting apps for learners with special needs using a framework based on the Universal Design for Learning principles and the SAMR model of technology integration.
  • Using content creation apps on iOS devices to provide creative expression to learners of different levels of ability.
  • Bio
    Luis Pérez received his doctorate in special education from the University of South Florida. Luis is the author of Mobile Learning for All: Supporting Accessibility with the iPad, from Corwin Press. In recognition of his accomplishments in the field of educational technology, Luis was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) in 2009. He is the Professional Learning Chair of the Inclusive Learning Network of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). His work has appeared in publications such Teaching Exceptional Children, Closing the Gap Solutions, THE Journal, and The Loop Magazine. In addition to his work in educational technology, Luis is an avid photographer whose work has been featured in The App Whisperer website, the New York Times Bits Blog and the Sydney Morning Herald.

    Using your iPad to Create Interactive and Engaged Learning (attend on of the following dates)

    This hands-on PD workshop will introduce several of the content creation apps to help you and your students develop engaging products. Apps include: iMovie, Explain Everything, NearPod and Adobe Slate. 

    DECEMBER
    Wednesday, December 9th 2015: End of Semester Wrap with MLI Participants (12:00-2:00pm)

    A discussion will be facilitated about the use of iPads in higher education, with contributions from participating faculty who taught using their iPad this semester. 

    JANUARY
    One-on-one meetings with individual faculty who will be teaching in the MLI program spring 2016. 

    FEBRUARY
    February 3rd, 2016, 12:30-2:00pm: Using Mobile Technology in the Service of Inter-Professional Learning and Community. Location: McLaren 250

    This talk will be delivered by Sabba Quidwai, an Apple Distinguished Educator based at the University of Southern California. Sabba will discuss her experiences integrating Apple technology into the Physician Assistant Program at University of Southern California; in particular, how she has worked with faculty to leverage mobile technology in ways that foster inter-professional learning, community service and digital literacy across the curriculum. The audience will be faculty and staff from USF. The presentation will be 90 minutes with Q&A.
