ITS Infrastructure

ITS Infrastructure is a key part of the University's efforts to provide state-of-the-art technologies on all USF campuses.

What We Do

The Infrastructure team ensures that USF's faculty, staff and students have the latest technology to quickly communicate, collaborate, and successfully complete their goals. Our team is comprised of the System Administration, Networking, Telephony and Project Management teams.

Services

  • Telephones: We manage all the telephony needs of USF, including system upgrades for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Telephone, fax, and modem service on the San Francisco campus and branch campuses.

  • Internet/Internet2: We ensure that high-speed internet connections are always available, and we collaborate with other leading universities and research institutions to develop breakthrough technologies.

  • Campus Data Network: We are continually improving the campus data network to take advantage of the latest technology. The present standard transmission speed for most university connections is 100 Mbit/sec.

  • Network Remote Access: Remote Access allows faculty and staff members to securely access internal USF private network resources such as Administrative Systems, File Servers, or Network Printing. Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology encrypts and secures data transmissions between your computer and the University network.

  • Cable TV: Cable TV services are available primarily to the University residence halls and select public areas.

  • Network Guest Access: Visitors to USF may self-register and receive guest access to wifi using the USF Visitors Network.

  • Regional Campus Data Network: ITS provides Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity primarily within the University work areas as well as the various University residence halls, ITS labs, and libraries. The present standard transmission speed for most university connections is 100 Mbit/sec.

  • Voicemail: Voicemail services for all University managed telephones.

  • Storage: Data storage to handle all of USF's applications and business needs

  • PCI Secure IT Services for CASHNet: Ensures that payments are handled securely and reliably

  • Server Hosting: Server Hosting Services provided to various USF organizations.

  • File Sharing: Students, faculty, and staff may create, store, and share files using DonsApps Drive, USF's branding of Google Drive. Drive has document, spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing modules.

  • Video Conferencing: USF has one telepresence (video conferencing) facility on the San Francisco campus: Malloy Hall 106, which contains cameras for the presenter and multiple conference participants, quality audio and more. Teleconference downlinks are also possible.

  • Printing: In addition to network printers available in offices and computer labs, you can use Pharos printing, print management software servicing Xerox multifunction printers (MFP).

  • Wi-Fi Network: Wireless network service to the entire USF campus networks. We are in the process of migrating to the 802.11ac standard.

  • Network Security: Infrastructure ensures that the campus network is secure.

  • Data Center Networking: Interconnects all the USF data center resources.

  • Web Hosting: Personal website hosting services for all students, faculty and staff via DonsApps Sites, USF's branding of Google Apps Sites.
