MS in Applied Economics - Meet Our Academic Director

Tuesday, February 11 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

— Virtual Information Session

A group of students engaging in discussion

Meet Professor Andrew Hobbs, Academic Director of the MS Applied Economics MS program at this interactive information session. Professor Hobbs studies how droughts, floods, and other disasters affect people, and develops tools to reduce the impact of climate change on farmers. He focuses in particular on how the costs of climate shocks are distributed within households. He is currently working on combining machine learning and satellite data for faster and more accurate detection of disasters and on insurance to sustain women’s businesses through droughts in Northern Kenya.

The MSAE program combines economics training with practical skills in data analytics: our students learn the economics of platforms, auctions, pricing, reputations, and business strategy at the same time as they acquire the tools of econometrics, causal inference, experimental design, and machine learning.

Join this information session to learn more about the transformative experience through our MSAE program.
