It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you that William Edwards, emeritus professor of Sociology, passed away on April 8, 2019. He was 80.
Bill was at the University of San Francisco for twenty-five years, from 1988-2013. He was an Associate Professor, a former chair of Sociology, a Davies Professor in 1997 and 2010, and former NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative for USF. His passion, brilliant know how, and drive were critical to the rebirth of Sociology as the strong department that it is today. Over the years, he has served as advisor, mentor, and sage to numerous and diverse students, faculty, and staff. Bill was a bibliophile, a mystery buff and an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
A celebration of Bill's life for the USF community will be planned for a later date.
Notes of condolences can be sent to the Sociology department office. They will be forwarded to Bill's family.
Please hold Bill's family, his wife - Virginia, their sons - Ron (Cecelia Edwards) and Reuben (Jeff Terflinger), their niece, Janine Grantham - and his many friends, former students and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers at this time in gratitude for his life, his wonderful ability to captivate through the spoken and written word, his master storytelling ability, and his great wit and humor.
