The Fulbright U.S. The Student Program offers over 2,000 funded opportunities in 140+ countries to study, research, or teach English abroad while promoting cross-cultural interaction and mutual understanding. All fields are welcome to apply, although specific grant opportunities have field restrictions or specific preferences, which varies based on the grants.

Who can apply?

The Fulbright program accepts seniors, post-grads, and graduate students. To apply, you must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America at the time of application. If you are not a U.S. citizen, explore your country of citizenship Fulbright opportunities, most countries have commissions. Applicants must have a conferred bachelor's degree or equivalent before the start of the grant period. Applicants must meet the language requirements of the award to which they are applying and demonstrate sufficient competency to complete their project and adjust to life in the host country.

Application Process

The Fulbright U.S. The student program application cycle generally opens in August and closes early October. Since you can be endorsed by USF for this fellowship, there is a Campus wide deadline which is usually a month before the national deadline.

For the 2026-2027 cycle, USF's Campus Fulbright Deadline for the 2026-2027 was on September 7th, 2025, and the national deadline is October 7, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Boren Awards are scholarships and fellowships for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students committed to long-term overseas study and to public service. Boren awardees receive funding to study the languages most critical to the nation's security.

The Boren Fellowship is for graduate students, or students who are applying to graduate programs, and the Boren Scholarship is for undergraduates who are planning to study abroad.

Who can apply?

U.S citizens that are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program located within the United States who are planning to study somewhere outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

Application Process

The Boren Awards require specific guidelines for the Fellow and Scholarship tracks, and campus review is also required. The Boren cycle usually opens in late August or early September, and has deadlines in January.

For the Fellows program, the deadline is January 21st, 2026. For the Scholarship program, the deadline is January 28, 2026.

The Truman Foundation identifies aspiring leaders when they are college juniors and recognize and reward their commitments to careers in public service. Awardees receive up to $30,000 for their studies, as well as access to extensive leadership development programs, mentoring, and federal government hiring assistance.

Who can apply?

US Citizens who are currently enrolled at a US based university and are in their second to last year of university if graduating in four or in their final year if they are graduating in three years or less. Students have to be nominated by their current or former institution, and you must be planning to attend graduate school in pursuit of a career in public service.

Application Process

The Truman fellowship requires campus nomination and applications must be started at least three months prior to the deadline. Professor David Donahue advises students on Truman, you can find his information on this page. The national deadline is February 3rd, 2026.
