Purpose
The University Space Committee serves as the primary institutional body responsible for the stewardship of university space and physical resources. The Committee ensures that space allocation and facilities usage align with the university's institutional mission, strategic priorities, and obligations to the health and safety of its community. Meetings will be held monthly in hyflex modality unless canceled due to no agenda.
Charge
The committee is charged with the following responsibilities:
- Information Sharing and Transparency
Maintain and disseminate accurate, up-to-date information on space inventory, utilization rates, and facilities conditions across all university units. The Committee will serve as a central hub for space-related data and ensure that relevant stakeholders — including academic departments, administrative units, and campus leadership — have access to the information needed for effective planning. - Academic and Co-Curricular Program Prioritization
Review space requests and usage patterns to ensure that allocations reflect the university's academic priorities. The Committee will evaluate how existing and proposed space assignments support instructional needs, research activities, co-curricular activities, student success, and programmatic growth. - Health, Safety, and Accessibility
Monitor facilities conditions with particular attention to health, safety, and ADA compliance. The Committee will identify concerns, escalate critical issues through appropriate channels, and recommend corrective actions or preventive measures. - Operational Decision-Making
Exercise decision-making authority over routine and day-to-day space matters, including reallocation of spaces between units, temporary space assignments, scheduling conflicts, short-term use agreements, and minor reconfigurations that do not require significant capital investment or alter a unit's core space allocation. - Recommendations to the President
When space and facilities matters rise to a level of institutional significance — including new construction or significant renovation priorities, responses to space emergencies, or conflicts that cannot be resolved at the operational level — the Committee will develop and present formal recommendations to the President for final determination.
How to propose an idea to the Space Committee?
