The Office of Community Living fosters the development of essential life skills that support students in living independently, building healthy relationships, and achieving academic success at USF. These skills include communication, self-management, and personal wellness and are integrated into the residential experience to help students navigate the transitions of college life.

Recognizing that each student’s growth is unique, the Office of Community Living provides intentional support and learning opportunities that encourage self-discovery and resilience. Through everyday interactions and structured experiences, students build confidence and develop the practical abilities needed for both personal and academic success.

Building a strong sense of belonging is central to the work of the Office of Community Living. Students are encouraged to form meaningful connections and actively engage with their communities, both within their residence halls and across the university and San Francisco.

Through intentional programming and access to campus and local resources, students explore what community means to them while contributing positively to shared spaces. This approach fosters accountability, connection, and active participation in shaping inclusive and supportive communities.

Developing socially responsible leaders begins with self-awareness and an understanding of others. The Office of Community Living guides students in exploring their identities and examining how social identities operate within local, national, and global contexts through the “I, We, Community” framework.

By fostering inclusive and reflective environments, students are supported in building cultural competence, empathy, and respect for diverse experiences. This foundation prepares them to take an active role in promoting equity and contributing to positive social change within their communities and beyond.
