Banner Self-Service for Faculty Upgrade

Frequently Asked Questions

In early 2022, Ellucian announced that Banner 8 Self-Service would transition to Maintenance Support, which was guaranteed until at least March 31, 2024. Upgrading to Banner 9 Self-Service will enable us to access essential defect fixes, security enhancements, and regulatory updates. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to modernize and enhance our overall Banner experience.

Since 2022, ITS and the Registrar's Office have been working together to upgrade our entire SSB 8 environment, including the Student, Faculty, Registration, and Finance modules. Because some areas depend on others, we've carefully planned the order of these upgrades. As a result, a few pages are still waiting to be updated, but they will be completed soon.

With the recent launch of Student and Faculty SSB 9, we have started migrating the Registration module. We plan to go live with this update in October 2024. After that, our team will continue working on the remaining pages and complete the full transition to SSB 9 by the end of 2024.

The Student Profile replaces several Student Information pages in Banner Self-Service 8 and consolidates this information onto one page. On the Student Profile, you will find biographical and general student information, address, phone, email, registered courses, and holds.

A student’s phone number and email address are on the Student Profile under Bio Information. Only one phone number and email address will be displayed.

The phone number displayed is determined and set by the student.

The email address displayed is based on the following rules:

  1. USF email address for enrolled students and alumni
  2. Personal email address for withdrawn students

A student’s address is located on the Student Contact Card which is accessible from the Student Profile. On the Student Profile, click the student’s name under the student’s photo to open the Student Contact Card. Only one address will be displayed on the Student Contact Card.

The address displayed is based on the following hierarchy:

  1. Residence Hall
  2. Local Residence
  3. Permanent Residence
  4. Mailing Residence

All addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses can be viewed in Banner Admin on form SPAIDEN (General Person Identification). They are not viewable in Banner Self-Service for Faculty.

A student’s registered courses are listed on the Student Profile. In addition, you may click the Student Schedule (8) link in the left panel of the Student Profile to view the student’s schedule with meeting days and times.

A student’s advising hold is released from the Student Profile. In the upper right corner of the Student Profile, click Holds. Only advisers have access to release advising holds.

Advising holds can only be added in Banner Admin on form SOAHOLD (Hold Information). Banner Self-Service for Faculty does not support adding holds.

Past or expired advising holds can only be viewed in Banner Admin. Banner Self-Service for Faculty does not support viewing past or expired holds.

Banner Self-Service 9 for Faculty is tailored for faculty for their teaching and advising responsibilities. Banner 9 Admin is the intended tool for staff to perform administrative tasks. Any administrative custom tools that were created for Banner Self-Service 8 for Faculty will not be supported in Banner Self-Service 9 for Faculty. Instead, please use Banner 9 Admin.

Your supervisor can request for you to have access to Banner Admin by submitting USF Support ticket. Here are detailed instructions on how to submit the request.

Our Educational Technology Services team (ETS) offers a Banner 9 - Introduction course, which is provided alongside the required training to gain access to Banner Admin.

You can find more information on ETS’s Faculty and Staff Training and Workshops webpage under section B. Communication and Collaboration Technology Classes and then under Banner 9 - Introduction.
