The Resident Advisor (RA) position is a full academic year appointed volunteer student leadership position within the Office of Community Living that serves as a resource, community builders, administrators, role models, and peer educators with our residents. With the goal of creating transformative living environments in the residence halls, RAs are responsible for building and facilitating a positive and effective community.

Job Description and Compensation

The RA position period of employment is for one academic year. Reappointment for succeeding years is made only after a review of job performance. During the employment period, the university will provide each RA with a single room and a standard Flexi-meal food plan for two semesters.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have completed one semester as full-time students at USF at the time of contract start date. If selected, maintain full-time enrollment throughout employment period. RAs wishing to carry fewer than twelve (12) academic credits in any semester must first receive written permission from the supervising Residence Director, in consultation with the Associate Director.

  • Candidates must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or above at the time of submitting an application and of contract start date, and, if appointed, maintain this minimum cumulative GPA throughout the appointment period; RAs must maintain a semester GPA of at least 2.5.

  • Candidates must have lived on campus for at least one semester (summer will be counted as one semester).

  • RAs must live in the residence hall assignment provided by the Office of Community Living for the duration of their employment and assist in facilitating the community living experience.

  • RAs must remain in good standing with the Department and University, including no significant or recent student conduct history.

  • Due to the role modeling and policy enforcement aspects of the RA position, RAs are expected to abide by all the same policies as the students with whom they live in community.  Additionally, candidates’ student conduct records are taken into consideration when we evaluate applications. 

Training and administrative dates

All RAs are required to attend the following training and administrative dates, if they are hired for the position. 

  • Office of Community Living Student Staff Welcome and Mixer: March 8, 2023

  • All RAs will be required to maintain extended availability during residence hall opening and new student orientation periods, as well as residence hall closing periods. These dates for the 2023-2024 academic year will be posted. 

Time away requests during these periods will be approved only in cases of emergencies and should be communicated to the RA’s supervising Residence Director as far in advance as possible. Missing mandatory periods may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to having a probationary status.

Application and Interview Process Overview

1. Submit Your Application (ROUND 1)

The job application opens on October 14, 2022 and will close on November 14, 2022 at 11:59 p.m PST. Applications will not be accepted after the deadline. 

2. Attend an Individual Interview (ROUND 2)

If selected to move on in the process, you will receive an email with instructions asking you to sign up for your individual interview with two staff members from the Office of Community Living. Individual Interviews will take place between November 28th and December 2nd. Please note that interviews will be completed online via Zoom.

3. HIRING DECISIONS

All RA student staff position decisions will be released on February 3rd, 2023

4. Accept the position offered to you and sign your contract

The deadline to submit your intent form to accept the RA position and sign your contract will be February 10th, 2023.

5. ATTEND ALL REQUIRED RA TRAINING
