In Memoriam: Ivan Hudson, Librarian Emeritus

We are sad to inform you of the passing of Librarian Emeritus Ivan Hudson. Ivan passed away on September 23, 2024 at the age of 86. During his tenure (1968-1997) he served in a number of roles in the Gleeson Library | Geschke Learning Resource Center, including Government Documents Librarian, Reference Librarian, and he retired as Head of the Reference Department. Some of Ivan’s other roles on campus included faculty lecturer in USF’s Library Science program and member of the University Senate, the latter two both in the seventies. He received his MLS from the University of California Berkeley in 1966.

Gleeson Library Dean Emeritus and USF Acting Provost (February 2020 - June 2021) Tyrone Heath Cannon shared that “Ivan was Head of Reference when I joined the University Library team as Library Dean in August 1995. Ivan was extremely dedicated to serving students, faculty, and staff and was an excellent, collegial reference librarian. He was well respected on campus and by his colleagues at Gleeson/Geschke. His legacy lives on. May he rest in power.”

Ivan’s wife, Ellen Carlin, was a Library Assistant in the Gleeson Library Circulation Department for over 20 years. They met at Gleeson.
