Nick Mukhar, 37, a University of San Francisco graduate class of 2009 and former Opinion Editor of the San Francisco Foghorn, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024.
Erika Heyer-Watts, Class of ‘10, former Foghorn Sports Editor and friend of Nick Mukhar writes:
A natural-born storyteller, Nick gave the Foghorn a unique perspective from sports, to leading the staff editorial, to even giving first-hand accounts of different energy drinks letting students know which one was best to fuel an all-nighter to get ready for midterms. Up until his death, Nick still found time to write by contributing to NBS Media as a freelance sports writer.
His dedication was seen by everyone on staff as he volunteered to help editors with longer pieces and he would even pose for pictures if they were needed for articles that didn’t have art.
Nick’s sudden passing has taken a toll on everyone who knew him. His smile and laugh were infectious, making it easy to be his friend but also making it that much harder to know that he’s gone. In this sense of loss, I choose to look back on the happy memories we shared and I am reminded to cherish the bonds we form with those we care about.
Our condolences go out to Nick’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.
