What does the Ignatian tradition have to offer those of different religious backgrounds and traditions? This lecture explores the question of how and why the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises should be shared in religiously diverse contexts. Giving close attention to the specific challenges involved in adapting the Spiritual Exercises for members of other religions (especially Asian religions), and how this task relates to the first Universal Apostolic Preference of the Jesuits — Promoting Discernment and the Spiritual Exercises — Professor Erin Cline of Georgetown University takes up the challenge of sharing the gifts of the Spiritual Exercises more widely.
Erin M. Cline is Professor of Theology and Senior Research Fellow in the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University. She is the author of four books and more than twenty research articles on Asian religions, comparative philosophy and religion, and Ignatian spirituality, including her most recent book, A World on Fire: Sharing the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises with Other Religions (The Catholic University of America Press, 2018).
