Performance Venues

We have two main performance spaces at USF: Presentation Theater, in the School of Education Building, and Studio Theater on Lone Mountain. Other performance spaces one might find live dance, music, and theater on campus include: Thacher Gallery in Gleeson Library, Gleeson Plaza, Kalmanovitz Amphitheater, Lone Mountain's Handlery Room (LM100), Xavier Chapel in Fromm Hall, and St. Ignatius Church.

Performance Opportunities

Classroom Spaces

Smaller performances, workshops, and informal showings frequently occur in classroom spaces around campus, including: the Kathi Gallagher Dance Studio in Koret Rec Center; School of Education room 040, Lone Mountain room 151, and Masonic Building room 122.

Masonic practice rooms (MA 111 & 112)

Description
small, single room, fits 4-5 people.

Hours
Mon.-Fri. 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Weekends 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Access only by swipe-card keylock. Music students can schedule up to 4 hours each week by coming to the Performing Arts office (MA 201) on Fridays between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Any unbooked time may be used but is not guaranteed nor secure. Reservations must be made in person.

UC's 4th floor "Music Room"

Description
small, glass-encased single room, Fits 4-5 people. Some sound bleed.

Hours
Access only by swipe-card keylock [space controlled by SLE]; same hours of use as all other meeting times in UC

electric weighted keyboard and chair and music stand.

ED 040

Description
Large open area with sprung floors (good for dancing) and can be used to rehearse ensembles as well as individual practice. Can fit up to 30 people.

Hours
You can schedule up to 4 hours each week by coming to the PA office (MA 201) on Fridays between 10 am - 2 pm. Reservations must be made in person with Ellen. The reservation calendar is posted on the bulletin board near ED040, and any unbooked time may be used but is not guaranteed nor secure.

MA 122

Description
A classroom on the first floor of the Masonic building.

Hours
Dead hour, weekends, or evenings - whenever a class is not in session in the room.

Acoustic upright piano; 20 movable chairs and tables; whiteboard with staff lines; transparency projector and screen

N/A: users take over the room whenever it is empty, first-come, first-served basis

LM 151

Description
A classroom on the first floor of Lone Mountain building

Hours
dead hour, weekends, or evenings--whenever a class is not in session in the room.

Amenities
Acoustic upright piano; 30 movable chairs; white board with staff lines

KG Dance Studio

Description
Large open room can fit up to 30 dancers

Hours
Varies--this room is often reserved for dance classes, but PASJ majors and dance minors may be able to arrange rehearsals. Usually limited to prearranged events/concerts and the associated rehearsals for those concerts.

Amenities
Sprung wood floor. Mirrors against one wall. A grand piano in the back, and sound system in the classroom to play pre-recorded music.

MA 202

Description
small, single room, fits up to 4 people

Hours
Mon.-Fri. 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Access only by reservation for PASJ majors or Music minors. Any unbooked time may be used but is not guaranteed

400-seat proscenium stage theater

Limited to pre-arranged events/concerts and the associated rehearsals for those concerts

  • Electric piano [may be used by student groups in their productions]
  • Concert Grand Piano [can only be used for USF's Music Program Concerts]

Studio Theater on Lone Mountain

Description
100-seat black-box theater

Hours
Limited to pre-arranged event/concerts and the associated rehearsals for those concerts. Priority for space use limited to PASJ and Music Program student and faculty performances

Amenities
upright piano. Theater has monitors, mics and amps, as well as a screen for projecting and choral risers

Gleeson Plaza

Description
Outdoor space in the middle of main campus

Hours
Dead hour, and evenings after classes/study hours have ended. Campus Security won't permit any activity there past 11:00 p.m.

Amenities
a small elevated space serves as a "stage"; but central location and high visibility

Kalmanovitz Amphitheater

Description
Outdoor space located right in front of K-Hall's main entrance

Hours
Dead hour, and evenings after classes/study hours have ended. Campus Security won't permit any activity there past 11 p.m.

Amenities
small stage at the bottom of the amphitheater can hold a small combo or solo performers; capable of carrying acoustic sound quite a long distance with clarity
