Our community mourns the passing of Double Don and former USF Law Professor Leo Joseph O'Brien BA '50 JD '53. After serving in the military and practicing law in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco, O'Brien began his legal ed career at USF, teaching Constitutional Law, Torts, and Evidence, among other subjects. He went on to teach at many other institutions, including serving as dean of both Gonzaga University School of Law and Loyola Law School.Reflecting on O'Brien's decades-long teaching career, Professor Emeritus and former USF Law Dean C. Delos Putz said "LeoO'Brien was a kind and generous person and an outstanding law professor and dean. Leo was outgoing and made friends wherever he went. He was always a good friend of USF Law School. He had a big mind and a large heart, and he will be missed."
A memorial service will be held at Santa Maria Church in Orinda on September 8, 2023.
