Staff and Leadership Learning Communities
The AAPI Center offers Staff and Leadership Learning Communities (SLLCs), semester-long programs of training, dialogue, and reflection for staff and administrative leadership at the University of San Francisco that support Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students. SLLCs focus on developing cultural competencies for participants to influence policy change and enhance practices to better serve AAPI students' educational, social, and emotional needs.
Each SLLC will be led by a facilitator and includes guest lectures, case studies of AAPI student issues, and discussions of resources, research, strategies, and current AAPI issues. Participants will share their learnings through in-service discussions and/or trainings to colleagues in their respective units and contribute to a web resource curated by the AAPI Center.
Facilitators and participants will be compensated for their time. They will also receive certificates and digital badges to recognize their collective participation.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Through participation in the SLLC, staff and administrative leadership participants will be able to:
- Increase their cultural competencies and awareness when working with AAPI-identified students at USF;
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across their campus unit or department, including leading in-service trainings and collaboratively designing resources and materials relevant to their work;
- Support service utilization by AAPI students; and
- Support AAPI students' sense of belonging and care from university service providers to increase engagement and retention.
