Disability Awareness Display
March 2–6 | Gleeson Library
Throughout all of Disability Awareness Week, we invite you to check out the disability awareness display in Gleeson Library, showcasing resources on disability history, culture, and identity that are available in the library’s collections.
Disability Arts Film Showing & Discussion
Tuesday, March 3 | 2:40–4:25 p.m. | LM 151
Join us for an engaging exploration of how we view, interpret, and use language to describe and speak about dance and dis/ability. Together, we’ll consider the many ways audiences experience movement and expression, with a particular focus on evolving practices of access in performance spaces. We’ll take a closer look at approaches such as audio description and ASL interpretation — two increasingly prominent elements of dance presentations — and reflect on how they shape understanding, inclusion, and artistic experience. Whether you are a dance enthusiast, artist, or simply curious, all are welcome to take part in this thoughtful and accessible conversation.
Disability Expression Gathering & Workshop
Wednesday, March 5 | 3–5 p.m. | UC 411/412
Join us for a relaxed, creative gathering centered on disability, identity, and self-expression. Participants are invited to design a reflection or drawing that expresses thoughts or experiences related to disability, or to craft a word of encouragement or affirmation for others. We’ll wrap up with an optional show-and-tell and conversation, offering space for connection, reflection, and shared understanding. All are welcome — no artistic experience needed!
Fundamentals of Inclusive Teaching Workshop With AXIS Dance Company
Friday, March 6 | 12:30–2 p.m. | KGallagher Dance Studio, KO L102
The Fundamentals of Inclusive Teaching Workshop with AXIS Dance Company offers past, present, and future educators an opportunity to engage in a disability-led workshop geared toward creating a more accessible education environment. This session is not only applicable to the dance classroom but also focuses on providing tools and knowledge that are assistive in developing increased accessibility in already existing pedagogic practice. The session includes learning and experiencing participatory exercises and activities for use in classrooms, as well as discussion about disability, language, and the development of AXIS’s extraordinary inclusive community education program. All faculty, students, and staff who are interested in learning more about disability theory, accessibility, and developing a teaching practice are welcome.
