In Memoriam: Roberta Marie McElroy

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Roberta Marie McElroy, mother of Cardinal Robert McElroy. Cardinal McElroy served as Lo Schiavo Chair from 2005 to 2007.

Born in 1925, Roberta was a fourth generation native San Franciscan. She was a graduate of Saint Cecilia Elementary School, Saint Rose Academy, and UC Berkeley, where she majored in history and graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

Roberta taught for three years at Paul Revere Elementary School in San Francisco. She was devoted to leadership and service in the Church throughout her life, holding various volunteer roles. She also served as Vice President of Little Children's Aid for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. In addition, she taught catechism for twelve years and was a parish council member, head lector, and liturgy committee member in the parishes to which she belonged.

Roberta was an avid tennis player into her eighties and enjoyed many cruises during her lifetime. She loved telling her family and friends stories of her adventures.

Roberta cherished her faith profoundly and daily thanked God for all of the blessings in her life. Her family and friends will remember her joyful, warm, and compassionate nature.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, June 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame, California.
