Advising
Students can take advantage of meeting individually with professors in their major. They can consult with full-time faculty to make a comprehensive and realistic academic plan based upon their interests, strengths, and goals. They can also discuss other important aspects of media studies, including learning about contemporary media-making and the media field, internships, service learning and study abroad opportunities, career plans and graduate school.

How do I take advantage of advising?
Advising works best if you are making your own decisions. Each time you meet your adviser, consider your overall goals, your short-term plans, and the specific questions you need to ask. Take notes in your meeting so you won’t forget.
How do I get an adviser?
You will be assigned a Media Studies adviser your first semester. You will also be assigned another adviser if you add the Journalism or Film Studies minor. Each adviser consults with you about the requirements specific to your major, minor or core.
Students are assigned an Academic Success Coach by the Center for Academic and Student Achievement (CASA). CASA offers programs such as New Student Orientation, Back-on-Track Program, and a variety of Peak Performance Sessions.
How do I find the names of my advisers?
- Log into myUSF
- Click on the "Student" button in the middle Self Service box
- Click on “Student Records”
- Click on “Degree Evaluation”
When can I see my adviser?
Each Media Studies, Journalism, and Film Studies adviser has regular weekly office hours:
