CRASE offers faculty a variety of programs to support and promote research and creative work. Please see below our program offerings in AY 2024-25.
Session #1 — Crafting Your Proposal: Best Practices for Success
Thursday, Feb. 13 | 11:30 a.m.–12:45 p.m. PST | UC 402/403 and Zoom
In this presentation, Stacy will guide you through the process of crafting a strong book proposal. Providing you with clear guidelines and important strategies, she will outline the best practices for success. She will discuss how to make your project stand out among others and essential criteria that you should address, such as comparable books and target audience. Moreover, she will take you through the proposal submission and publication process. USF faculty member James Zarsadiaz will share his own proposal and reflect on the experience of publishing his award-winning book, Resisting Change in Suburbia.
Session #2 — Shaping Your Vision: A Book Proposal Workshop
Thursday, March 6 | 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. | In person, Terrace Room, Zief Law Library
This hands-on workshop will provide you with a space to receive critically constructive feedback on a book idea or an in-progress book proposal. Drawing from her extensive knowledge and years of editorial experience, Stacy will assess the strengths of your book pitches and proposals and offer concrete suggestions about how to improve them. Through dynamic conversation and focused guidance, you will leave this workshop with inspiration and clarity on how to move your work forward.
Wednesday, March 26 | 3–5 p.m. | Terrace Room, Zief Law Library
CRASE invites you to attend our Pecha Kucha Happy Hour, an exciting opportunity to hear six of your colleagues share their compelling scholarly and creative work in a highly visual and engaging format. “Pecha Kucha” means chit-chat in Japanese, and is a unique storytelling format using no more than 20 fast-paced slides. Delicious refreshments and beverages will be served. Please join us!
Wednesday, April 16 | 12–1 p.m. PDT | Zoom
If you're interested in working with the media but would like to know best practices, helpful tips, and what not to do, please join this online workshop hosted by Kellie Samson and Kevin Keane from the Office of Marketing Communications. You'll learn what reporters really want, how to prepare for an interview, how to pivot when necessary, and how to be concise and focused.
Set aside time to power through your scholarly project–whether it is a manuscript draft, data analysis, report, presentation, or creative work–even if just for an hour or two. In these monthly in-person and online writing days, we use the proven structure for getting the most done: for each hour, faculty write for 45 minutes and then take a 15-minute break.
In response to a time marked by economic instability, political volatility, and transformative social change, CRASE re-launched the Interdisciplinary Action Group (IAG) grant initiative in 2025 to spark collaborative research at USF. Aligned with the university’s Horizons initiative, the IAG grants invited faculty, librarians, and staff to join forces across disciplines to imagine and enact a better future. Proposed projects addressed one or more key themes:
- Climate & Sustainability
- Health & Well-Being
- Artificial Intelligence & Technology
The call also welcomed innovative work that supports USF’s broader commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
Each funded team includes members from at least two different departments or schools, and some have student research assistants.
This initiative exemplifies how interdisciplinary collaboration can generate timely, impactful scholarship, and deepen USF’s commitment to shaping a more just and humane world.
Note: The IAG grant call has now closed and awards have been made. A full list of IAG projects and teams can be found under Research and Creative Work.
