Federal Student Loan Debt Relief
On August 24, 2022, President Biden announced the Federal Student Loan Debt Relief Plan. The plan includes a final extension of the student loan repayment pause through December 31, 2022, with payments resuming January 2023.
The plan also provides a one-time Federal student loan debt relief. The U.S. Department of Education will provide up to $20,000 in debt relief to Pell Grant recipients or up to $10,000 for non- Pell Grant recipients with Federal loans held by the Department of Education that disbursed prior to June 30, 2022. New loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2022 are not eligible for the debt relief. You may check your Federal loan history and whether you were a Pell Grant recipient by logging on to your Federal Student Aid account at StudentAid.gov.
