Gas Outage Update

Dear USF Community,

We write with an update on the gas leak on lower campus.

University Facilities and on-site contractors repaired the leak on the gas line near the entrance to the first floor of University Center. As part of USF Facilities’ efforts to upgrade existing infrastructure, the entire length of the gas piping system in front of University Center will be replaced later this year. At this time, gas service has been restored to all lower campus buildings with the exception of Hayes-Healy due to a fault in a regulator servicing that building. Please note the current adjustments to campus operations:

  • Meal service for today, Jan. 11, will continue to be available in The Open Door Cafe on Lone Mountain. Regularly scheduled services in The Market Cafe in University Center will resume tomorrow, Jan. 12.
  • All residence halls, except Hayes-Healy, have regained hot water and heat.
  • Dryers in all residence halls, except Hayes-Healy, are back online.

University Facilities and on-site contractors have obtained the part to repair the faulty regulator and work will commence shortly to restore regular gas operations to Hayes-Healy. While this work is being completed, there will be no other impacts to other lower campus buildings. Hayes-Healy will continue to be without hot water and heat until the repair is complete. Once completed, Hayes-Healy will have gas service restored and it will take time for the systems to come back up to regular operations.

Main Drive will remain somewhat disrupted until paver installation is completed. This work will be completed during regular business hours as weather permits.

We want to thank you for your patience and understanding and extend our appreciation to university and subcontractor staff who worked through the night to remedy this situation as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,
