Four Main Calls to Action

#1: Moving from Policing to Service

  • Shift focus from enforcement to compassionate service and education.

  • Uniforms and armed officers will remain for clarity and coordination but with sensitivity to community discomfort.

  • Shuttle services and public safety staff will continue using identifying uniforms.

#2: Transparency and Accountability

  • Engage with the Progressive Policing Community Advisory Board (PPCAB).

  • Increase transparency in hiring, training, operations, and officer activities.

  • Encourage feedback via the DPS Community Engagement portal.

  • Promote relationship-building through events like “Coffee/Boba with P-Safe.”

#3: Re-allocating & Partnering

  • Some responsibilities (e.g., mental health crises, pest control, shuttle driving) do not require armed officers and should be reallocated.

  • Suggests partnering with other campus and external services for these needs.

#4: Recruitment, Hiring, Training

  • Prioritize hiring BIPOC staff and those aligned with USF’s social justice mission.

  • Training must include education on racial history, mental health, crisis intervention, and bias awareness.
