Fall 2025 LLM Orientation

As the end of summer nears and the anticipation of starting our LLM Program turns to actual law school classes, classroom discussion, and meeting new friends, we begin our task of preparing you for a successful and rigorous academic challenge.

Orientation Week begins on Monday, August 18, 2025, and ends on Friday, August 22, 2025. It combines classes with relevant workshops and lectures designed to ease your transition to our LLM Program – and for many of you, your first exposure to academics in the United States.

Orientation Week is part of the LLM instructional program. Attendance and participation is mandatory for all new LLM students. During this time, LLM students trained in non-US law schools will begin the American Legal System I class, which meets daily during Orientation Week. All students will also become acquainted with the law school, the Dorraine Zief Law Library, the Computer Center, and other university facilities and services. Students will also begin to receive instruction in basic research skills, meet individually with their faculty academic program director to finalize their course of study, complete their class registration, and explore San Francisco. Formal classes for all law students begin on Monday, August 25, 2025.

More detailed orientation information and materials will be available the beginning of August 2025.

Registration

Registration for classes will be finalized during the first two days of LLM orientation: Monday, August 18, and Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

First Week Assignments

First class meetings for the American Legal System class begin during Orientation week. Those assignments will be sent to students prior to that time.
