Action Plan
USF’s One Earth Initiative Action Plan brings to life the environmental sustainability and justice values that are central to its Jesuit Catholic identity. We have identified priorities that address the student experience, spirituality and culture across campus communities, our facilities, and the ways we, as an institution, can further support research and teaching that will change the world from here.
Our plan was inspired by the Laudato Si Action Platform, a global effort to instantiate the principles of Laudato si within all Catholic institutions, including universities. The platform calls for action planning to meet the following goals, goals that, like the encyclical itself, express our Jesuit Catholic mission and resonate with and for all.
The action plan is organized around the following four priorities:
Priority 1: Ecological Spirituality and Culture
Create and enhance ecological spirituality, foster a culture that values nature and cares for those most vulnerable to environmental harm, and enhance our collective capacity to cope constructively with eco-anxiety
Priority 2: Education and Student Experience
Ensure that students obtain an understanding of integral ecology: of the interconnected scientific, political, legal, economic, social, cultural, and spiritual dimensions to our understanding of the environment and the profound threats we face.
Priority 3: Facilities and Infrastructure VISIT
Make USF an environmental showcase by eliminating direct carbon emissions, reducing USF’s on- and off-campus environmental impacts, and enhancing the educational and research opportunities offered by our physical campuses.
Priority 4: Institutional Mechanisms for Supporting Environmental Sustainability Initiatives VISIT
Coordinate, Support, and Uplift USF’s Environmental Sustainability Justice Initiatives
