Regarding Full-Time Faculty’s Vote of No Confidence

As many of you learned yesterday, the leadership of the USF Faculty Association (USFFA) announced the results of its vote of no confidence in Provost Don Heller

Dear USF Community,

As many of you learned yesterday, the leadership of the USF Faculty Association (USFFA) announced the results of its vote of no confidence in Provost Don Heller. With slightly more than 80 percent of USFFA members participating, a very large majority registered no confidence.

This is somber news for our entire community as we celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, a new year, and all holidays of the winter season.

I am taking this important expression of faculty opinion very seriously. The voices and participation of members of our faculty are essential to the work of our community and our academic enterprise. In the coming days, as I gather more information, I will continue to have conversations with my cabinet, Provost Heller, USFFA leadership, and members of the faculty and staff. I will communicate concrete next steps early in the new year, and I look forward to sharing information on how we will proceed as a community.

I thank all the faculty who organized and participated in the vote.

Please accept my best wishes to you and your family and friends as you celebrate and find time to rejuvenate and reflect. And, as always, thank you for all you do to help realize USF’s mission.

Sincerely,

Paul J. Fitzgerald
