Partnership for Undergraduate Mentoring and Teaching (PUMT)
The University of San Francisco/University of California San Francisco PUMT program provides opportunities for USF science majors to gain research experience in laboratories led by UCSF graduate students and post-doctoral researchers/clinicians.

Financial Aid
Grants and Aid
The biology department provides financial support for student research and travel to scientific meetings. This support is made possible by the generous contributions of donors to the Biology Gift Fund.
Scholarships and awards
- The Arthur Furst Award is given to eligible students conducting biology research.
- The Edward L. Kessel Award is given to a graduating biology major with proven academic excellence, demonstrated leadership and support within USF’s Department of Biology, and high potential for a career in the biological sciences.
- The Carol J. Chihara Award is given to biology majors with academic excellence for a particular semester.
