The University of San Francisco is committed to supporting and celebrating first-generation students and their intersectionality’s across campus.

Creating and promoting an equitable and accessible campus environment through initiatives that promote mentorship and community engagement opportunities that align with the Jesuit values of social justice, human rights, academic success and personal growth. Through our initiatives, we aim to nurture resilient leaders who will contribute to a more humane and compassionate world.

Vision

We envision a future where all first-generation college students have the resources, support and opportunities to succeed in higher education and beyond. By fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and promote equity, we aim to dismantle systemic barrier and empower students to become leaders and advocates for social justice and human rights in their communities and professions.

Learning Outcomes

  • Academic Expertise: First-Generation students will develop strong academic skills and strategies to navigate the challenges of higher education successfully with the assistance of both a faculty advisor and an Academic Success Coach. This allowing for retention and on time graduation timeframes.
  • Personal Development: Through workshops, info sessions, and trainings our students will develop self-awareness, confidence, and resilience and become tomorrow’s leaders to change the world.
  • Community Building: Students will be invited to join in community partnership projects, to promote and deepen their knowledge on social justice and human right issue we face as a community.
  • Leadership and Advocacy: Students will be invited to participate in leadership roles and activities to develop skills that could be transferred to other first-generation students on campus.
