Creighton's annual Polar Walk

Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day! 💕 It’s the perfect excuse to grab your significant other—or a friend—and get out there and get moving. We’re nearly halfway through the Challenge, and the momentum is strong: 3,123 faculty and staff from 20 participating Jesuit institutions have already logged more than 100,000 minutes of activity (as of 8:30 a.m. PST). Keep the love—and the movement—going!

Have you peeked at the Go Move Challenge leaderboard lately? 👀 LMU is setting the pace and Santa Clara is continuing to be a strong contender. Meanwhile, Santa Clara, Marquette, and John Carroll are crushing it in average minutes per person. Don’t forget—you can still log those minutes retroactively, so every move counts! 💃🏽🏃‍♂️💥

Current standings (but changing by the minute):

  • Top minutes: Loyola Marymount University
  • Top average number of minutes: Santa Clara University
  • Top universities based on size:
    • Large: Marquette University
    • Medium: Santa Clara University

Powered by Teamwork

Working as a team helps everyone earn more physical activity minutes because it builds accountability, motivation, and a sense of shared purpose. When you move together, you’re more likely to show up, push a little harder, and stay consistent — and that momentum adds up.

The majority of our universities are using the team component, which is helping them rack up more minutes. Some share how they are working together as a team:

  • University of San Francisco has 25 teams registered. A couple of the teams share how they're moving this month:
    • The SQUAT team in the Facilities office has been doing squats hourly as a team with an hourly auto slack reminder. 😅
    • The Student Engagement Teams (SE-Moving and EnGAGE & EnGAINs have been taking cycling classes together at the Koret Rec Center.

  • LMU has 95 teams registered! They share that they have a mini challenge between teams to come up with the most creative photos. Offerings this month include: daily walks, pickleball, morning yoga, run club, and Salsa dancing to get teams moving, dancing, laughing and having fun!

  • Creighton has 16 teams registered and launched the challenge with their annual Polar Walk (Omaha) and Sun Walk (Phoenix). On the Polar Walk, some faculty and staff joined the tradition of touching the beak of Billy the Bluejay — an annual ritual that first-year students proudly take part in as a way to feel connected to campus and its traditions.

They’re continuing the momentum with weekly walks on both the Omaha and Phoenix campuses. Last week brought quite the temperature contrast — 30° in Omaha and 72° in Phoenix! Luckily, this week’s walk in Omaha was much more comfortable, with a warmer 53° greeting participants.
