Summer Zero

Class of 2026 on Zoom during Summer Zero 2022

Summer Zero is a multi-week program for incoming first-years to help students get to know their cohort and introduce them to the engineering program and life at USF. The program is led by key faculty members and peer mentors from engineering and related departments who are eager to teach courses and serve as mentors. Students take math, programming and writing courses and participate in activities which help them understand their individual talents and assets as they prepare to enter the program. Coursework is supplemented with workshops with a focus on community building, campus resources and an introduction to the engineering profession. All program costs are covered by the department.

Summer Zero 2024 will consist of roughly 5-weeks of online courses and workshops (from July 8th to August 9th) and one week of on-campus events mixed in with the general USF freshman orientation (from dinner on August 11th to August 16th). Four peer mentors, current USF students, will accompany our new freshmen on this journey and will be an invaluable resource to starting college on the right foot.
