Counseling Psychology Ph.D.
Purpose
- Trained to have a broader scope of practice and provide patients with more culturally-sensitive and culturally-informed treatment options
- Individuals with a PhD in counseling psychology can work as counselors and educators in an academic setting
Program Length
- A PhD program can take anywhere from 4-8 years to complete
- Some schools may have accelerated programs that allow you to take more courses and begin your dissertation earlier
- Requires additional fieldwork hours post-graduation
Licensure
- Depending on the state, candidates must accrue between 2,000-3,000 fieldwork hours
- Pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)
- Pass the state-specific licensure exam
