Dance Generators is an intergenerational dance company housed at the University of San Francisco. Consisting of USF students & Bay Area older adults, dancers range in age from their teens through their 80’s and come together through a shared commitment to innovative movement practices. The company was founded in 1997 by Amie Dowling, and later directed by Natalie Greene and co-directed by Kristen Greco. Dance Generators promotes the gifts, strengths, and life histories of elder and younger dancers while shattering stereotypes about aging and empowering communities to MOVE. Through their creative process, the company reclaims dance as an art form for diverse bodies. Through performance and community engagement, their work redefines audiences’ expectations of dance. Currently Directed by Liv Schaffer, the company engages in performances, community engaged programming, and virtual pen pal projects on campus and in the broader Bay Area community.
