AEM 111: Academic Oral Communication I (4)
This course focuses on oral communication skills in academic situations. Students explore a wide range of verbal content, functions, and forms. Students practice listening and speaking activities common in university classes, including discussions, lectures and informal speeches, and group discussions and presentations. A variety of types of authentic materials are used. A grade of "C" or higher is required to pass.

AEM 121: Academic Oral Communication II (4)
This course focuses on oral communication skills needed in academic situations. Students explore a wide range of verbal content, functions and forms and participate in listening and speaking activities common in university classes, including discussions, academic lectures, formal and informal speeches, and group discussions and presentations. A variety of types of authentic material are used. A grade of "C" or higher is required to pass.

AEM 120 - ACADEMIC READING/WRITING II (8)
Focus on reading university-level material rapidly and efficiently, and on demonstrating comprehension through an articulate oral or written response and on the skills needed for writing academic reports and essays. A grade of "C" or higher is required to pass.

AEM 124 - ACADEMIC READING/WRITING III (8)
Focus on reading complex university-level material of various genres more efficiently and rapidly, on responding to readings and academic topics using multiple and appropriate writing and speaking genres, and on advanced academic writing, research and documentation skills. A grade of "C" or higher is required to pass.

AEM Courses Pathway

*If students are required to enroll in the AEM Reading/Writing track, they must have passed those courses with a "C" or higher before taking a Core A1 public speaking course.
**Students' grades in AEM 124 will recommend them for either RHET 106 (4 credits) or RHET 106N (6 credits).
