Our Mission and Values

Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Career Services Center (CSC) is to assist USF students and alumni in developing, evaluating, and effectively implementing their career plans. CSC programs promote a greater awareness within the university community of the world of work and the need for career development over the life span.

To effectively fulfill its mission, the Career Services Center seeks to help students clarify their values, interests, skills, and personality in order to create intentional and meaningful career plans; to expand collaborative efforts with faculty, staff, student organizations, and employers to broaden opportunities for students; and to provide services, resources, and programs that connect career development to the broader student learning experience.

Career Services supports the University of San Francisco’s mission by educating both the hearts and minds of students through career development that emphasizes purpose, equity, and justice. In alignment with USF’s Jesuit Catholic values of cura personalis, mind body and spirit, people for others, and diversity, the Career Services Center empowers students to clarify their interests and goals, to connect with opportunities that foster professional and personal growth, and to enter the world of work as thoughtful, socially responsible leaders. By building partnerships with employers, faculty, alumni, and community organizations, Career Services extends the reach of the classroom into meaningful career pathways, helping students apply their learning in ways that contribute to the common good and prepare them to create a more humane and just world.

Values Statement

Equally central to our mission are the values that shape our office culture and guide our work. We define success not simply as securing a job, but as empowering students to pursue their own goals with confidence and clarity. We are curious in our approach, encouraging exploration and discovery, and we aim to extend students’ influence by connecting them with networks, ideas, and opportunities. We honor broad mindedness and creativity in problem solving, and we emphasize responsibility and helpfulness in our daily interactions with students, alumni, and employers. Ultimately, our purpose is to help students discover meaning in life through their careers and lives of service.

In doing so, CSC lives out the values of the University of San Francisco: cura personalis, the integration of mind, body and spirit, the call to be people for others, and the commitment to diversity. We align our programming, employer partnerships, and student support with these values, ensuring that career development at USF is not just about professional preparation but also about fostering lives of purpose, justice, and community.
